How to Promote a Podcast

How to Promote a Podcast

Your podcast is your brain baby. It is what you and your team are passionate about. You work hard to present it to the world. But wait, how do you present it to the world? Of course, you need to hit publish, but how do you promote your podcast so that it will actually find an audience?

Since the Strategy Spot team knows the world of podcasts so well, allow us to share a few tips with you so that when you send your podcast out into the vast internet it will be sure to be heard.

All Hail iTunes

The first thing you need to understand is the importance of iTunes. According to a whole slew of references, iTunes is the #1 place you want your podcast to do well on. This is due to the fact that 70% of podcast listening and downloading occurs on this very platform.

Use Social Media

Now more than ever, people are connected. It’s so easy to connect with people who are eager to share new and interesting things thanks to, Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, and Twitter. An important step to drumming up excitement for your podcast is to collect an audience before it even goes live. So, do not hesitate to use those different outlets to start getting people to anticipate your podcast well in advance.

You can do this in so many ways. Tease your latest episode before it goes live by posting 15-second sound bites, quotes from the upcoming episode, or sharing behind the scenes moments.

Have Several Episodes to Post

Something you may have experienced is, finding a new podcast that you love only to not have more to listen to! Build on initial intrigue by having at least 3-5 episodes to post at the start if you are launching a brand-new podcast. This will keep people interested and invested enough to come back for more.

Piggyback on Your Guest’s Audience

If your podcast format includes interviews, be sure to use that to your advantage! The person you are interviewing may have more influence than you. Make an effort to send them images or quotes that they can use on their social media to drive listeners to that episode. Do the same on your social media.

Once you have recorded an episode, you can convert it to be used on different platforms, including YouTube. Or you can transcribe the episode and upload it to services like Fiverr. Highlight it as an “Interview with…”. This way it will attract any potential SEO.

Do a Give-Away

If there is one thing that is universally loved, it is free stuff. Use the appeal of free stuff to attract people to your podcast. Depending on what your budget allows, things like, t-shirts, stickers, and bags can be a part of your give-away. Promote your give-away on your social media and make providing a review to iTunes a contingent to join. The reviews will help you get noticed by iTunes, plus a give-away is simply a fun way to engage with your audience.

Combine Mediums

Getting noticed in a highly saturated market can be difficult. Another way to have a greater presence is by combining podcasts with video content. Video content is an excellent way for people to feel more connected to you. If you are not sure how to do this, give Strategy Spot a call. We can consult with you on how to make your video podcast a sure success.
